- A social worker and nonprofit management consultant, I am a lifelong Democrat deeply committed to the ideals and vision of our local, state and national Democratic Party.
I am the founder of the Silicon Valley LGBT Democratic Club (www.lgbtdems.org) and am the northern Vice-Chair of the LGBT Caucus of the California Democratic Party. I am also the Vice-Chair of the San Jose Appeals Hearing Board and a Board member of the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits.
My partner and I live in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose with our 4-year old daughter, Caroline. In 2006, I ran for a seat on the San Jose City Council.
- Why I am a Democrat:
- My coming-of-age as a Democrat occurred in my native state of Wisconsin. During the farm crisis in the 1980's, I saw many family farms go bankrupt due to the poor economic policies set by the Reagan Administration.
Inspired by leaders of the WIsconsin Farmer's Union to become active in our local Democratic Party, I also became active in a local chapter of the Young Democrats. From 1988-1990, I served as the State President of the Young Democrats and received my early political training from many senior Democrats and role models working hard to defeat Republicans in this battleground state.
For the past 20 years, I have continued my Democratic activism and remain a loyal "yellow dog" Democrat.
